It’s never a good thing when a writer is at a loss for words. This potpourri’s scent is a bit more difficult to describe, so I’ll tell the story of the name’s inspiration instead. I was going to give it a different name originally, because the color scheme was going to be mostly monochromatic in shades of purple. As my rose collection grew over nine months, this blend deviated a bit. The first rose I wanted to purchase for my September birthday was out of stock, although I was able to purchase a few others in the target color range. Ultimately, I purchased more roses in a single year than I have owned over my lifetime. (And I might not be done yet.) If you’re paying attention to my social media accounts, you’ll notice the collection includes several colors. Ultimately, the potpourri name change was inspired by variety names of the roses I’ve added to the jar so far. Sorry, that’s a secret, but again, you might be able to guess some of them by following my Instagram account or FB page.
This batch in particular will evolve and change over time, depending upon the season and what’s blooming. You might say it’s a metaphor of the human experience. Our lives and the dreams which inspire them, will often deviate over time from the desires of our youth. This is usually due to experiences which are beyond our control. It’s not much different than the act of gardening itself. I have no control over the weather or exactly when certain plants bloom. That’s partly why I have so many roses now. The pansies which also contributed to this blend are cool season annuals in Texas. I let the last flush of flowers go to seed, so it will be interesting to see how the bees cross-pollinated them after they germinate in the Fall.
Well, look at that. I found a “few” words after all.
This is an aromatherapy product and is not intended for human consumption. The complete list of ingredients is proprietary. Sensitive individuals are encouraged to contact me first, before making a purchase. I would be happy to verify if the product contains a customer’s allergens, and as always, all personal information is kept private. (Please use the inquiry form on this page.) The one possible irritant I can confirm is pollen. The majority of materials are grown outdoors throughout the year, but potpourri is usually sitting still in a container. I recommend washing your hands immediately after if you handle it directly.
Oh, one more thing. The price of this product is not determined by final weight of the package. Like all living things, plant material contains a lot of water. Most botanicals will dry anywhere from half to a quarter of their original size. So, each small package actually contains a deceptively large amount of plant material. Since I grow them myself in a suburban yard, the source isn’t infinite.
