Spirit Animal Casket

For those who want to own a truly branded piece of The Purple Prose Room, this casket could probably be considered a signature item. Does the photo on the lid seem familiar? You’re not mistaken, and yes, I did take some liberties in Photoshop. The Giant Swallowtail is my favorite butterfly. I consider it my Spirit Animal, because it has deep personal meaning for me. I first observed a pair of them in Fall 2014. They were engaged in a mesmerizing, synchronized dance in my backyard. It was most likely a mating ritual, and I had never seen one before. I still regret that I did not take a video of it. Alas, I didn’t see another one for almost five years, then they suddenly started making regular appearances in my yard. Giant Swallowtails are difficult to photograph. They’re very jittery, which makes it difficult to get close. My patience finally paid off after two years, but the Passionflower was no longer in my garden. (It’s an aggressive vine here, and I came home from an extended trip to discover it had smothered two roses.) I captured my butterfly while it was getting a drink of water from some damp crushed granite in the back yard. I guess it was really thirsty, because it allowed me to get within inches of it and stayed long enough for me to take several photos.

The box is wood and measures 6.375″ x 4.875″ x 2″. The outside is covered in parchment paper and the interior is painted metallic purple. The (i)s on the lid are dotted with AB crystals. There is also a secret special effect on the text and butterfly wings, but I’m not telling you what it is. You’ll have to discover it for yourself. This is a limited edition item which is hand-signed and numbered by the artist. A certificate of authenticity will be included.
