As proof that storytelling occurs in many forms, I am now offering a new handmade product. This Eye of Horus Casket was inspired by my visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science in May 2022. I received the opportunity to see a special traveling exhibit on loan from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. (Ramses I and the Gold of the Pharaohs) The Eye of Horus is an Ancient Egyptian symbol which represents well-being, healing and protection. Gold was considered to be the skin of the Gods. Originally used as a representation of the sky and Nile river, Blue’s meaning eventually expanded to include the Universe, fertility and creation. The color blue rarely occurs naturally in nature. The ancient Egyptians revered it so much, they were highly motivated to create the first synthetic mineral pigment, calcium copper silicate.
This versatile box is useful for the storage of special keepsakes and as a decorative object. I recommend filling it with another special project of mine, Brown Sugar Bourbon Moist Potpourri, which is also available in this site’s shop.
Box measurement is 6 in. x 4.5 in. x 1.75 in. (15cm x 11.5cm x 4.5cm). Each one is numbered and signed by the artist (Me!)
